Caring For London's trees
Tree surveys and inspections are professional assessments conducted by qualified arborists to evaluate the health, safety, and structural integrity of trees.
These services help landowners fulfill their legal "duty of care" under the Occupiers' Liability Acts, ensuring trees do not pose a foreseeable risk to people or property
Common Types of Tree Surveys
- Tree Condition & Safety Surveys: Primarily for homeowners, schools, and commercial sites to identify hazards like decay, unstable roots, or dead branches. They will include recommendations for maintenance or removal.
- Mortgage & Insurance Reports: Requested by lenders during property purchases to assess potential risks such as subsidence, root damage to foundations, or future liability.
- BS5837 Surveys (Planning & Development):
Mandatory for most UK planning applications where trees are on or near a construction site. These surveys will include a Tree Constraints Plan (TCP) to protect root systems during building.

How Does It Work
- First we come to the site address to assess and discuss the size and needs of the project.
- Work will Include:
- Age, tree species, measurements including height and width, the overall health of the tree, recommendations to improve its condition, along with a proposal for any work required to address any risks
- Analysis of the tree’s proximity to buildings, light levels or legal issues. In brief, our survey will reflect the information needed by your mortgage provider, insurer, local planning authority or for legal reasons.
